Abstract

Turkey, due to its geopolitical position, has taken migrations from the western, eastern, northern and southern neighbors throughout its history and continues to receive them. Education in our policy of migration is of great importance so that the immigrant children in our country do not become vulnerable and develop themselves. This study is based mainly on the adequacy of language teaching for immigrant children. Teaching Turkish for immigrant children should be different from that for native children. In this context, teachers educating immigrant children should be well educated about how to do second language teaching. From this point of view, the aim of this study is to determine the quality of the in-service trainings received by the teachers who teach Turkish for immigrant children in line with the opinions of the instructors. The sample of this research designed in the qualitative research model consists of 20 lecturers who give orientation education to the teachers who will teach Turkish to Syrian children within the scope of " The Project of Supporting the Integration of Syrian Children into Turkish Education System (PICTES)". Semi-structured interview form developed by researchers as data collection tool and content analysis technique were used in analysis of the data. The basic findings obtained from the study show that the planning preparation of the in-service training, the quality of the training, the level of the teachers’ attitude toward Turkish teaching for immigrants, and the proficiencies of the teachers at the end of the education were found to be inadequate, while teaching staff giving in-service training have sufficient equipment and experiences to train instructors. It was also found out that the main problems in in-service training arise from the methods and techniques used by the instructors, the period of the education being short and the classrooms being crowded.
