Abstract

Names include a sound-meaning relation that is formed with presupposition and blended with social approaches. These are shaped or evolved according to each community’s own traditions and beliefs and they arrive to our age within the frames of hundreds years of traditions and social taste. It is important to follow the traces of evolving in the naming traditions through the person’s names that comes with the social change and developments and it also has importance to keep the records of the meanings of these names. In this respect we attempted to design a glossary to have the knowledge of state and meaning of the local words after the mutual effects of Anatolian Turkish and the Central Asian Turkic language, with which the people of Ulupamir have ties, to each other. In order to determine the loss of meaning and the changes in sound and meaning data that originates from the field is considered important. The aim of the study is to present the contemporary sound-meaning features of the person’s name as a glossary in order to reach to the cultural heritage of the Kyrgyz people from Van province Erciş region via naming traditions. The research is conducted with surveys and interviews and is mostly pursued with descriptive studies and the data used is maintained from the sample group formed by random choice. The cultural influences that are intertwined with the naming traditions contains rich sources that can be helpful for many social discipline. In this writing that draws attention to the semantics of the words that are used in naming the aim was to provide data for the evaluation of the Turkic onomastics and it was deemed important to contribute to the disciplines that are related to linguistics as well as contributing to the social researches.
