Abstract

This study aims to compare the genres of two works written in the same places, in the same period of the Balkan wars. One of the works is written in French, it came out of the pen Guy Chantepleure, the other is written in Turkish, it is the production of Ömer Seyfettin. While the latter has titled his work as a diary (Rûznâme), the French author has mentioned his work "notes of war" in the dedication written by himself. The preface writer of this work in French uses the words for her, "text" and "narrative of the war" ... This article seeks to evaluate the two works to find their exact genres. The study of the works in question reveals that they would deserve to be considered modern, or in other words contemporaries, but each has its own reason for being so mentioned. The besieged City, although faithful to the traditional conception of essay at the French people, announce the later texts in France where the fusion of the genres in the same work will be appreciated. The personal Diary, entitled Rûznâme, from his part, is modern, because he broke with the tradition in the Ottoman literature and announced the modern literature in the European in Turkey.
