Abstract

This article aims to interpretation the autobiographical novel Dschungelkind, what has achieved success for weeks in the top reading list and has also been transferred to cinema by the name of this great success, of Sabine Kuegler (1972, -), who is one of the important representatives of 21st century German literature, by the mediation of interculturalism in postmodern era. This novel, which focuses on the experiences of the main character, who goes from West Europa to Indonesia with her family because of her father’s linguistic researches, is about autobiographical characteristics. The author has gathered people from different culture, religion and language groups in this novel. These different people have many problems about communication when together. The author has approached these problems form a pluralist and empathetic perspective, not from European and Christian-centered perspective. In this aspect of the novel solves the notion of interculturalism, which is the most important problems of the postmodern period in which we live.  The art of literature has on the basis of the notion of communication. This art reflects the communication of interculturalism, which has multiple country/language characteristics. In this novel we witnessed the cultural sharing of people belonging to different cultures living together for long years. It gives us the message that understanding and tolerance should prioritize in life. In Turkey has been no academic studies related to German writer. We aims to introduce this German writer and her novel to our reader in Turkey with this study.
