Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine the opinions of Turkish teachers about attitudes of Syrian guest students towards the Turkish language courses, their basic language skills, teaching materials and planning, measurement and evaluation issues. In the study, 13 Turkish teachers were interviewed within the scope of qualitative research approach. Criterion sampling method was used in the selection of teachers. Turkish teachers who work in the central districts of Gaziantep (Şahinbey, Şehitkamil) and who have Syrian students under temporary protection in their classes In the 2018-2019 Academic Year were sampled. The interview was conducted in a semi-structured manner. The interview, which was recorded with video and audio, was transferred to text and a qualitative content analysis was performed. In the content analysis, the code system was applied for both the research group members and the questions. The following results were obtained in the research: Most of the Turkish teachers who participated in the study expressed that these students' negative attitudes towards learning Turkish, these students do not communicate with Turkish students, the least developed language skills of them are writing and reading skills, Turkish textbooks ingrediants are above the level of these students, they did not carry out different planning and assessment studies for these students, they evaluate the language problem as the most important problem in the integration of Turkish students into the Turkish education system.
