Abstract

In teaching Turkish as a foreign language, it is essential to instruct the four basic language skills, namely listening, speech, reading and writing. Listening education is the key to communication among language learners. In the present study, the metacognitive strategies that can be used in the listening education process in teaching Turkish as a foreign language and the application of the steps in these strategies were emphasized. The present study was conducted as a case study since it aimed to introduce listening strategies that could be used in teaching Turkish as a foreign language. The aim of the present study was to introduce the metacognitive strategy learning and instruction stages to learners of Turkish language and learners of Turkish as a foreign language, and to demonstrate the benefits of this strategy in active listening skills. Foreign language listening skills and listening metacognition strategies were described in detail and instructions are provided about utilization of these strategies.
