Abstract

The research and compilations which are mainly about the language,customs and traditions and the works of folk literature of Shorians starts rom the the first period of 19th century. Epics constitute most of the works of folk litarature which are compiled at this era. Shorians are a little Turkish group who live at Kemerovo at the southwest of Siberia. The first compilations about Shorian folklore were made by the misionaries. The main aim of misionaries was to christianize the societies of Altai and Siberia. Most of those compilations, of which the make up aim by the misionary priests are different, could not reach today. The first orderly information about Shorian epics were compiled by Radlof. Radlof wandered some villages of shorians in 1861, he compiled many materials about Shorian folklore during that travel. Structural analysis which are based on the analysis of the hero’s biography is mostly applied on the sayings of European societies. Fistly, the German scientist Johann Georg von Hahn discovered that there were important closeness between the stories of different mythic and epical narrative heroes, and by this, he tried to create a common heroic model. Von Hahn brought together the similarities between the narrations about fourteen heroes in sixteen articles. After Von Hahn, Otto Rank used structural style in the analysis of heroic biography. Otto Rank focused on the structure of first episode of heroes which is from birth to being a king to a place. Rank brought the heroic patterns together in twelve articles. Another example intended to analyse the biography of hero was adapted to bandit narrations by Eric Hobsbawn. Hobsbawn brought the features of runaway and bandit narrative heroes which were belong to different nations together in nine articles. The largest heroic patterns which was based on public narration was created by Lord Raglan. In this work, The Western Traditional Heroic Patterns by Lord Raglan will be applied to the Kartıga Pergen Epic of Shorian Turks.
