Abstract

A dynamic society maintains its development through its traditions coming from the past, culture, economic relations, belief system, and unwritten rules. Social changes that seem to be following a horizantal progress in the past turn out to be following a vertical progress in modern times especially with the improvements in industry and varieties in ways of thinking. These developments and changes inevitably effect the judgements of values and daily life. Turkish society have experiences a few breaking points throughout the history. Without a doubt, the most prominent of these is the fall of Ottoman Empire after the War of Liberation and the foundation of Turkish Republic. With the understanding of a new era, there have been great changes in many areas such as law, trade, or alphabet. The new system attempted to implement the reformations as immediate as possible while still dealing with the problems inherited from the past. As a result, social problems troubling some people occured. Intellectuals are not indifferent to the social problems caused by the reformations. Orhan Kemal, approaching to the social problems with a Marxist perspective, presents the problems of peasants, landownership, class differences, the bureaucracy- bourgeoisie relations, family in his novel named “Kanlı Topraklar”. In this paper, the problems that the novel presents will be studied in accordance with the perspective of the writer.
