Abstract

Text analysis has been one of the areas of interest of researchers throughout history. Analysing texts considering their relations with the other texts, on the other hand, started to be within researchers’ field of interest as a result of the developments in the 20th century, and the number of studies in this field has increased since then. Within the concept of intertextuality, no text is considered to be totally original, and the argument that all texts have an inevitable relation with what was said or written before them is supported. Therefore, the relation of texts with what was said or written before them gains importance in intertextual analysis. Within the scope of this study, the concept of text was dealt including films, and the fairytale Snow White, compiled by Grimm Brothers in 1812 from the stories told by the people in the society, and the film Snow White and the Huntsman shot by Hollywood in 2012 were analysed in the light of intertextuality. At the end of the study, it was found out that there were both similarities and differences among the two texts. It was also found out that the similarities were provided by the way of allusion. The presence of similarities found in the study supported the argument that no text is totally original, and it was seen that intertextual analysis provided an important insight in text analysis.
