Abstract

Foreign language teaching is a process that includes many elements, influenced by political, cultural and social elements and needs to change and improve constantly. Examining the theoretical developments recorded in the field of foreign language education in Turkey and the language teaching methods and techniques and applications developed in the framework of these developments and revealing what kind of problems have been experienced in these applications will benefit every area where language teaching is done. Although there is an emphasis on foreign language teaching in our country, there is a growing belief that foreign language acquisition is not enough. For this reason, studies have been done to determine and eliminate deficiencies related to foreign language teaching programs, methods, and teacher competences. The purpose of this research is to determine the differences between "Learning English and German in Turkey and Turkish in Turkey", and to determine the problems in teaching and present solutions to these problems. As teaching Turkish as a foreign language, some methods and techniques specific to Turkish language are necessary. Each language needs its own approach. The reasons for learning Turkish as a foreign language and reasons of learning other foreign languages may have similarities and differences. In the study, the programs, applied methods and exams in English, German and Turkish preparatory classes, the students' achievement status, and course attendance have been examined and the results have been interpreted. It has been found out that foreign language learners in the country where the foreign language is spoken, ‘Turkish learners in Turkey’, are more successful than others.
