Abstract

There are three main factors in the teaching/learning of foreign languages, as in any branch of teaching/learning, or in a more specific context in French teaching/learning as a foreign language for this study. These factors are teaching, learning and knowledge. The most important factor that formulates this trilogy is the irreplaceable responsibilities of the teacher, interacting with other factors, shaping them, and directing them. When considered in this context, building bridges between teachers, learners and knowledge, and strengthening these bridges is of a great importance in Turkey where French is taught mainly as a second foreign language. The aim of the study in light of these inferences is to focus on the fundamental part of these three concepts, namely, the 'motivating' role of the teacher, and to conduct a material review study to develop this role. Today, the notion of motivation in teaching/learning French as a foreign language is essential, and regardless of the age, profile or desire/needs of the learner/teacher, the motivation of these two actors is inevitable. For this reason, in the study the role of the French teacher as “motivator” is primarily described. Then, by examining a material selected by considering the technological developments and the benefits of these developments -the TV5 Monde channel website for this study- is analyzed to ascertain whether the platform carries the attributes necessary to develop the motivating role of the teacher.
