Abstract

Drama has an important place in the development of the child as an educational tool that has educational and entertaining opportunities. In this study, the purpose was to examine the effects of drama activities on children development in preschool education period according to the viewpoints of teachers. The study group consisted of 24 pre-school teachers who worked in the city center of Ankara in 2017-2018 Academic Year who participating in the study in a voluntary manner. As the Study Model, the Semi-Structured Interview Technique, which is one of the Qualitative Research Methods, was employed to collect the data. The Descriptive Analysis and Content Analysis Methods were employed in the analyses of the findings obtained. Categorizations were obtained from the study data by considering similarities; and these categories were then presented in tables. These data were also supported by quoting teacher viewpoints. According to the findings of the study, it was determined that teachers had different definitions for drama; and they implemented different applications in educational medium. When teachers planned drama activities, it was determined that they considered the age and developmental levels of children; and they organized the contents of the activities in line with the skills and acquisitions to be acquired with drama according to the readiness of children. According to the teacher’s viewpoints, it may be claimed that drama activities have an influence on the cognitive, emotional, personality, mobility and social development of children. It may also be claimed by generalizing the study data that drama activities are influential on the development of children. According to the teachers’ viewpoints, it may be claimed that drama activities have an impact on the cognitive, affective, personality, behavioral and social development of children.
