Investigation of the Story Characters in Middle School Turkish Course Books

Abstract

While providing important information about people's behavior, characteristics and cultures, they can also be subject to literary works. In this way, the characteristics of heroes become important information in the works. In particular, the characteristics of heroes in the textbooks that the students of the age of development have studied in the textbooks in schools are important for their individual development. In fact, it is a possible situation for the students to acquire intellectual and behavioral contributions to the individual. The aim of this study was to determine the heroic characteristics of the story texts in Turkish textbooks and to determine the characteristics of the characters given to the students with storytelling. This research was conducted in accordance with the descriptive survey model. The sample of the study consisted of the Ministry of National Education, which was taught in the 2015-2016 academic year, the secondary school (5, 6, 7, 8) and the special education publications of the Ministry of Education. Documentary screening technique was used to collect data. Content analysis and frequency analysis were used to analyze the data. As a result of the research, the heroic features of the stories in Turkish textbooks were determined. When the story and hero rankings are examined, the first two places are 11 stories and 15 heroes in Cem Publications and 7 stories and 10 heroes in 6th class MEB publications. When all the texts in Turkish textbooks are examined, it is determined that 29 authors have more than one publication. In the secondary school textbooks, it is determined that the heroes of the story characters, which are located, are not intense. When the characteristics of the story heroes found in the books are examined, it is determined that the most common feature is persevering.
