Evaluation of High School Students’ Reader Self- Efficacy in terms of Various Variables Lise Öğrencilerinin Okur Öz Yeterliklerinin Çeşitli Değişkenler Açısından Değerlendirilmesi
The aim of this study is to determine the perceptions of high school students about their self-efficacy in terms of various variables. The data related to the study was collected with the Reader Self-Efficacy Scale developed by Ülper, Yaylı and Karakaya (2013). The study was carried out with 539 students attending various high schools in the center of Kütahya province during the fall semester of 2017-2018 academic year. Descriptive statistics were used in data analysis. The data collected through the questionnaire was expressed by independent sample t test and single factor variance analysis (ANOVA). According to the results of the study, there was no statistically significant difference between the mean scores of the students' self-efficacy scale according to their gender. It was determined that the difference between the self-efficacy average scores of the 12th grade students was significant to the detriment of 9th grades. There was a significant difference between the mean scores of self-efficacy scale in favor of family income levels. The difference between the mean scores of the self-efficacy scale and the mean of reading book frequency was found to be statistically to the detriment of the ones who did not read or read less. According to the number of books read annually, there was a statistically significant difference between the mean scores of self-efficacy scale and there were significant differences between school types and readers' self-efficacy and that there was no significant difference between the mean scores of mother and father’s education level and self-efficacy scores. In this study, the results and suggestions were presented based on the obtained findings.
