Okuma, metnin anlamdırılması ve yeniden yorumlanmasıdır. Yazar, metin aracılığıyla okuruyla iletişim kurmaktadır. Bu süreç. okurun metin üzerinde bir anlam kurma sürecidir. Bu süreç okurun ön bilgilerine, deneyimlerine, ilgilerine bağlı olarak şekillenmektedir. Çocukların edebi metinlerle buluşması çocuk edebiyatı ürünleri ile gerçekleşmektedir. Çocukların metinlere yönelik verdikleri tepkiler eğitimcilere ve kitap yazarlarına önemli veriler sağlayabilir. Bu araştırmada çocukların resimli bir kitaba yönelik tepkilerini belirlemek amaçlanmıştır. Araştırmada 5. sınıf öğrencilerinin metin merkezli ve okur merkezli yazılı cevapları ve bu yazılı cevapların dağılımının analiz edilmiştir. Araştırmaya amaçlı örneklem yöntemiyle seçilen bir okulda okuyan 28 öğrenci katılmıştır. Araştırma sonuçlarına göre 5. sınıf öğrencilerinin okur-merkezli tepkiler verdikleri görülmüştür. Kitaplarla kişisel bağ kurdukları ve kendi hayatlarıyla özdeleşelen olaylara tepki gösterdikleri, olumlu duygular yaratan olayların onları etkilediği tespit edilmiştir.

Reading is giving meaning to the texts and its reinterpretation. The author communicates with the reader through the text. This is the process in which the reader establishes a meaning on the text. This process is shaped according to the reader's prior knowledge, experiences and interests. Children meet literary texts through the products of children's literature. Children's reactions to texts can provide the educators and book authors with important data. In this research, it was aimed to determine the reactions of children to a picture book. In the research, text-centered and reader-centered written answers of 5th grade students and the distribution of these written answers were analyzed. The research included 28 students who studied at a school selected with the purposive sampling method. According to the results of the research, it was seen that 5th grade students gave reader-centered reactions. It was found that they established personal ties with the books and reacted at events identified with their own lives, and that events which created positive emotions influenced them.
