JAMB Cut Off Mark for Law 2025

JAMB Cut Off Mark for Law

Law is one of the most popular courses to study in Nigeria. Because so many students want to study Law, getting admitted can be quite competitive. To secure a place, candidates must show they are top-notch students.

One of the key requirements for admission is meeting the JAMB cut-off mark for Law. This cut-off mark is the minimum score you need to get in the UTME exam to qualify for admission. Those who meet or exceed this score and satisfy other requirements stand a good chance of being admitted, while those who fall short usually won’t get in.

In this article, we will share the official JAMB cut-off mark for Law, the right JAMB subject combination you need, the O’Level requirements, direct entry admission criteria, and a clear list of federal, state, and private universities in Nigeria where you can study Law.

JAMB Cut-Off Mark for Law

The general cut-off mark set by JAMB for Law usually falls between 180 and 200. This means if you write the UTME and score anywhere within that range, you can go ahead and apply for post-UTME screening at the university of your choice.

But we have to be honest with you, Law as a course is very competitive. So, it’s highly recommended that you aim to score higher than the 200 JAMB minimum. As a candidate wanting to study Law, you should try to achieve a score of 250 or more. That way, no matter how tough the competition or how limited the slots are, your score will put you in a strong position to secure admission.

JAMB Subject Combination For Law

Meeting the cut-off mark is important, but that score can become useless if you didn’t choose the right subjects when registering for UTME. How? Every course has its own unique JAMB subject combination that matches the skills needed for that course. Law is no different. To avoid wasting your effort, you must pick the correct subjects. Below are the subjects you need to combine in JAMB to study Law:-

  • Use of English
  • Literature in English
  • Government
  • Any one of: History, Christian Religious Studies (CRS), or Economics

Make sure you select these subjects when registering for JAMB Examinations.

O’Level Requirements for Law

Aside from your JAMB score, your O’Level results play a huge role in your admission chances. Most universities require at least five (5) credit passes in subjects including:-

  • English Language
  • Literature in English
  • Mathematics
  • Government or History
  • Any other Social Science subject

You must have these credits from WAEC, NECO, or GCE, and they should be obtained in no more than two sittings.

Direct Entry Requirements for Law

If you didn’t apply through UTME but still want to study Law at university, Direct Entry is your option. This route lets you skip the first year and start from the second year (200 Level), saving you time. But to qualify for Direct Entry, you need to have completed some advanced studies or related qualifications first.

Here is what you generally need to qualify for Direct Entry into a Law program:-

  • At least two A-level passes in subjects related to Law, like Government, Literature in English, or History.
  • Or, a National Diploma (ND) with good grades from a recognized institution in a related field.
