The Suffix /+GA/ in Turkic Languages

Abstract

There are some words derived from /+GA/ the formation of denominal nouns in historical and modern Turkic languages. Investigated /+GA/ morpheme, it is shown that it is reduced the meaning of the word. There are four variants (+ka, +ke, +ga, +ge) of this morpheme in General Turkic. +GAy morpheme the extended form of its is used in some Turkic languages in General Turkic. In addition, other languages in Altaic language theory (Mo., Jap., Man. etc.) have been found to be used the /+GA/ suffix. As a result of the investigation, /+GA/ morpheme were grouped under four headings according to functions in historical and modern Turkic languages. 1. /+GA/ derived animal names: karga “crow”, koburga “owl”, sarıçga “locust”, bürgä “flea”, kösürKä “mole”, çınçırga “sparrow”, sirkä “nit”, çäkürgä “locust”, 2. /+GA/ derived kinship term: anaka “mommy, my mother”, avakım “mommy, my mother” (< ava+ka+m), avıçga “old man”, kurtga “old woman”, abaka “grandfather”, agaka “daddy”, ebekke “my grandmother”, ehekke “my grandfather”; 3. /+GA/ derived adjectives and adverbs: özge “other”, başka “other”, ber’tke “fine”, elekke “early”, ça:şka “leisurely, slowly”, ürge “always”, tışka “quietly”, kaptarka “old”, katraka “curly (for hair)”, velterkke “light; flimsy”, yapalkka “slippery”; 4. /+GA/ derived new noun from noun: yumurtga “egg”, çamarkka “circle”, çelhe “tongue”, yerke “order”, kılga “moustache”, birge “together”.
