Abstract

Dictionaries are the most important tools transfering lexicons of languages into the future. Dictionaries, which are the most important reference resources in the meaning, the historical development and the pronounciation of the words etc., have been made for different purposes for centruies. Boris Aleksandrovich Larin is one of the most imporant scientists of XX. century, who has qualified scientific studies in many scientific fields such as history of language, dialectology, lexicography et al. The Intradepartmental Lexicographical Studio was established with his initiation on 1th September 1960 in Leningrad State University (St. Petersburg State University) within Faculty of Philology to perform studies efficiently and effectively in the field of lexicography and to create various types of dictionaries. Four major fields of study were specified by B. A. Larin as main areas of the Studio: regional dictionaries, historical dictionaries, author’s dictionary, bilingual author’s dictionary. By 1980s proverbs, idioms and slang were also included in research area of the Studio. Moreover, in the course of time the Studio became a coordination center of lexicographical studies which continue in universities such as Kiev, Riga and Saratov. For the purpose of following the studies of research centers which work in the field of lexicography, cooperating with these centers and building upon the information in that field with interdisciplinary studies, in this article, the Boris Aleksandrovich Larin Intradepartamental Lexicographical Studio, which was established by Russian linguist Boris Aleksandrovich Larin in St. Petersburg State University and its works will be covered.
