Abstract

Habits, beliefs, styles of seeing and evaluating life, reactions against events of nations are assessed within culture. With strong foundations which will be formed between successive generations, the lives of nations display continuity and integrity within historical process. Current generation combines the experiences and accumulations they gained from their ancestors who lived in the past and the opportunities of their time and plays an essential role in the shaping of the society which they are a member of. National culture is extremely essential in the continuation of the existence of a society. If a generation which is unaware of the cultural values of its society is grown, it is not possible for that society to look to the future safely. In Yahya Kemal’s words, it is not possible to trust the “future whose roots are not in the past”. Transfer of values plays an essential role in the shaping and conveying to future generations of a social culture. Values also help individual to attune with their society and socialize. Among the general objectives of education programs, several values such as patriotism, being respectful, being organized, and being fair are included. Thanks to the values education which begins in family and continues at school, individuals give their lives direction and become beneficial to the society of which they are a member. Aysel Gürmen aims at conveying several values to children with the books she writes. She completed her elementary and secondary education in Cyprus and undergraduate education in Turkey. The author founded Uçanbalık Publications in 1995 and wrote several books directed towards children and claimed an important place in children’s literature.
