The purpose of this study is to take the opinions of the teachers of the Turkish Language as well as the students with respect to the function of the field of grammar learning in supporting the basic language skills. In line with this objective, an interview form was applied to twenty teachers of the Turkish Language who were determined by purposive sampling method among the teachers of the Turkish Language working at secondary schools in Boğazlıyan District of Yozgat Province and also to four secondary school students again determined by purposive sampling method from the schools where these teachers were working. Again an observation form was applied to five teachers of the Turkish Language who were established by means of purposive sampling method out of these twenty teachers of the Turkish Language who the interview form was applied. Furthermore, documents such as the notes on the notebooks of the students, the grammatical activities in the workbooks, the lecture notes of the teachers, worksheets, and the examination papers were subjected to document analysis. Qualitative research method was used in the research. The data obtained by means of interview, observation and document analysis were assessed by descriptive analysis and content analysis approaches. As a result of the research, the teachers of the Turkish Language can only relate the field of grammar learning to the writing skills even though it only deals with basic language skills as a whole.
